Illinois Center for Autism
A special place...for special people.
The Illinois Center for Autism’s (ICA) Children’s Special Day School Program is a year round educational
program that provides individualized special educational services to students ages 3-21 that have been
diagnosed with autism, pervasive developmental disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, mental retardation,
specific learning disabilities, speech and language impairment, emotional disturbance and developmental
delay.  The Children’s Special Day School offers services at
on-site classrooms as well as at satellite
classrooms.

The students’ needs are met through the development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) which
focuses on developing independence, self control, spontaneity, applied academic skills, social skills and
meaningful communications skills and the development of a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) to address
specific behavioral concerns for each student.

IEP and BIP goals and objectives are written and implemented by Illinois certified Special Education
teachers with the help of teaching assistants (Illinois certified Regular Education or substitute teachers)
and classroom aides.

Speech and language needs are addressed by licensed Speech/Language Pathologists who develop
individualized goals and objectives for each students as well as offer consultation to families, school
districts and other social service agencies to help meet the communication needs of the students.

The Children’s Special Day School is accredited by
North Central Association.
