Illinois Center for Autism
A special place...for special people.
Transitional Services
The Illinois Center for Autism provides Transitional Services for students/adults, ages 14 and
older. Leaving the school environment and moving into the adult world is often a difficult process
for young people. This is particularly true for students with disabilities. The purpose of the
Transitional Services is to facilitate and address these students’ movement or transition from a
school environment to the post-school activities  he/she desires. Under the supervision of a job
coach, individuals receive on-the-job training at employment sites within the community. The
individuals work in a variety of situations, including clerical tasks, general  maintenance,
housekeeping, and food service. Job coaches are phased out as the individual becomes more
independent and self-sufficient. These services provide employment opportunities and are used
for integrating people with autism into the work force.

The Transitional Services Program is accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission
(CARF) under
Employment Services:
Community Employment Services - Job Development,
Community Employment Services - Job Site Training,
